(i) Open and voluntary membership
Members wishing to join cooperative societies do so on voluntary basis and
can leave at will. They are however, expected to meet basic requirements
before they can join.
(ii) Educator for members
Support for educational activities with movement/aimed to foster
cooperative
principles at all levels to encourage membership and teaching
(iii) The principle of democratic control
The administration of cooperatives is entrusted to a committee elected by
members on the basis of one man one vote.
(iv) Affiliation co-operation
Primary co-operative societies should be affiliate/ co-operate/ others/
secondary apex societies/ all levels
(v) Interest on capital
Limited interest on capital should be allowed/ predetermined on capital but
based on a fixed rate bid down by rule.

- Open membership: There should be open membership on voluntary basis upon payment of agreed membership fee.
- Share limit: Each member can buy shares in the co-operative up to certain minimum and maximum limit.
- Sale of produce: Only those bonafide members are allowed to sell their products through the co-operative.
- Non-profit principle: Motive of forming a co-operative is to assist members to improve their standards ie. It is a non-profit making organization.
- Equal rights: Each member has equal right to vote and is entitled to one vote each in an election.
- Interest on shares: Money accruing form share contribution is distributed to members on basis of share contribution
- Withdrawal of membership: Any member has a right to withdraw membership voluntary.
- Loyalty: Every member should be faithful and loyal to their co-operative
- Education: The co-operative should constantly educate its members on matters of their affairs
- Co-operative principle: Al co-operative should join together to form bigger organization such as unions in district level national and international
