-The technique involves scratching a design on the surface of the ceramic form with a suitable tool, e.g. comb, stamp.
-Glaze slip of a different colour from the main clay body is applied on the form and scratched through the form design.
-When the form is fired, the glazed surface contrasts with the pattern areas which are in the colour of the clay.


ii. Excising
-To cut out shapes from a ceramic form to leave open spaces.


iii. Slip trailing
-Technique which involves liquid clay/slips which is applied by dipping, sponging, spraying and trailing.
-Slip trailing can be done while the form is being formed on the wheel.

iv. Resist
-Involves the application of wax to the surface of the ceramic so as to resist slip or glaze.
