Then if u = 0.40 and v = 0.80 , find the value of f.

Correctly substitute the values of u and v. Then 1/f = (1/u)+(1/v) will be
1/f = (1/0.40) + (1/0.80)
1/f = 2.5 + 1.25
Hence 1/f = 3.75 and therefore the value of f will be the reciprocal of 3.75
f = 0.266...
