i) Thermostat - prevents coolant passage from the engine block to the radiator until the engine attains its normal operating temperatures.

ii) Pressure valve –allows the escape of excess pressure in the cooling system to prevent blow-off of the hoses.

iii) Vacuum valve –protects the system from developing a vacuum that could collapse the radiator as the coolant temperature drops
