Sugar was delivered to a supermarket packed in 500 g packets, 1 kg packets and 2 kg packets. A total of 4.8 tonnes was delivered. If a third of this was in 500 g packets, 2/5 in 1 kg packets and the rest in 2 kg. How many packets were delivered altogether?

1000000 g make 1 tonne
1.6 tonnes = 1600000 g
The number of packets = 1600000/500 = 3200 packets
2/5 of 4.8 tonnes = 1.92 tonnes
1000 kg make 1 tonnes
1.92 tonnes = 1920 kg
The number of packets = 1920/1 = 1920 packets
The fraction of 2 kg packets is 1. - ( 1/3 +2/5) = 4/15
4/15 of 4.8 tonnes = 1.28 tonnes = 1280 g
Number of packets = 1280/2 = 640 packets
Total number of packets = 3200 +1920 + 640 = 5760 packets
