In a constituency, there are 40,000 registered voters. On a polling day, 3/4 of the voters cast their votes. The winner got 4/5 of all the cast votes. The second candidate got 3/5 of the remaining votes cast while the third candidate got the rest. How many votes did the third candidate get?

The second candidate got 3/5 of (1-4/5) = 3/5 of 1/5 = 3/25 of the votes
The third candidate got 1 - (4/5 + 3/25) = 2/25 of the votes
The total votes cast = 3/4 × 40,000 = 30,000
The third candidate got 2/25 × 30,000 = 2,400 votes
