A mercury barometer reads 75cmHg at the base of Mt.Kenya. Assuming that the height of
the mountain is 1088m and the average density of air is 1.25kg/m3. What is the reading of the
barometer at the top of the mountain? (Take density of mercury is 13.6g/cm3.)

Pressure due to mercury column = pressure due to air column
(0.75 - x) 13600 X 10 = 1088 X 1.25 X 10
0.75 - X = 0.1
X = 0.65
Reading = 65cm Hg
