A solution of sugar cane was boiled with a small amount of dilute hydrochloric acid and allowed to cool. Sodium hydrogen carbonate solution was added drop by drop until the fizzing stopped. A few drops of benedicts solution were added to the mixture and boiled. An orange precipitate formed at the end of the experiment.
