Impairment is
Any loss or deterioration in the functioning of a body part, organ, or system that can be temporary or permanent and can result from injury or disease.
Or,
any loss or abnormality of psychological, physiological or anatomical structure or function.

ii. Disability
Disability is
Any condition resulting from impairment that reduces the ability of a person to participate in daily activities.

iii. Screening
Screening is
A procedure that quickly captures a glimpse of a child’s health and developmental status via the use of standardized screening instruments.
Or,
A brief procedure designed to identify children who should receive more intensive evaluation. The purpose of screening is to find out if a child needs further evaluation.
Or,
A preliminary process of identifying children who may be at risk of future difficulty in school (e.g., inability to meet academic expectations) and those who may have special needs in learning (e.g., extraordinary abilities and talents or handicapping conditions).

iv. Assessment
Assessment is:
a continuous process that occurs throughout a child’s education that tracks the child’s developmental progress.
Or,
an ongoing examination of a child's development over time, to make sure the child is progressing and meeting milestones.

It refers to the wide variety of methods or tools that educators use to evaluate, measure, and document the academic readiness, learning progress, skill acquisition, or educational needs of students.

v. Special needs
In the context of children at school, special needs refer to particular educational requirements resulting from learning difficulties, physical disability, or emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Or,
any of the various difficulties (such as physical, emotional, behavioral, or learning disability) that causes an individual to require additional or specialized services or accommodations (such as in education or recreation)
Or,
the educational requirements of pupils or students with any of a wide range of physical disabilities, intellectual difficulties, emotional and behavioral problems or medicalconditions.

vi. Inclusion
Inclusion is an educational practice whereby students with special needs are fully integrated into the general education classrooms to learn together with non-special needs students.

vii. Placement
Placement refers to the amount of time in each school day that a student with special needs spends in the resource or in a general education classroom.
