• Identify those who are involved and determine the extent of use. If addiction is dictated then such students should be put on rehabilitation right away so that they can be helped to recover from the addiction.
• Handle each case separately and set up counseling sessions for each individual depending on the magnitude. Individual counseling helps the student to open up and it will be easy to understand his or her reason for abusing drugs. This way, the counselor will understand the root course of the problem and will be in a position to help the student as an individual.

• To introduce and encourage peer group counseling in schools so that students can be each other’s keepers. Group counseling encourages students to support each other and give positive encouragement.
• To create awareness of drug abuse symptoms in school to help students make informed choices. Educating the students on the consequences of drugs will help them choose the company wisely and to stay away from drugs when they understand their effects.
• To develop activities that will meaningfully occupy students’ leisure time in school. When they are idle, they may be tempted to think about using drugs. But if they are occupied during their free time they won’t have time to think about abusing drugs.
• The schools can organize video shows, seminars, and other resourceful talks to discuss the effects of drug abuse. Through education, the students will get more information about drugs and why they need to stay away from them.
• Schools' administration should discourage hawking around schools. It is easy for hawkers to smuggle drugs in school in the name of selling snacks to students. Keeping them away will minimize students’ access to drugs.
