Human being’s suffering is unjustifiable. One could find himself in a difficult situation that could be hardly be traced its beginning or a times of suffering because of some incredible forces are behind it. One could be like a rudderless being knowing nothing of what is happening only finding him or herself in a valley of problems which are difficult to evade. The pearl’s characters are not an exemption as can be seen in the discussion.
Women in the society have always been victim of circumstances of the prevailing laws. Patriarchy is a law that paves a man to have all dominion over a woman in their higher rung, men have always propagated chauvinistic attitude an attribute that has always branded women as inferior and just be like a fluff before them since is a discourse generated by the very society whose both genders lives, women have always been susceptible only to remain submissive being rendering men to be like demigods before them.
Juana is a woman who finds it difficult to extricate her elf from this law of patriarchy which has given a man all the mandate of controlling any aspect of her life. Juana could not show elation physically when the family is to celebrate the fortune of getting the pearl. When she even asked what the family intends to do now that they are rich, she just remain quiet and glance towards Kino for the answer. Her attempt to solve the impending danger brought by the pearl meets a bull walk when Kino fills to listen because of his chauvinistic nature a thing that costs them much engulfing the loss of their son.
Kino is also a victim of the very loses as a man, it is unthinkable thing if he is to listen to his wife’s decision since a man is mandated to be at the epicenter of anything as far as family matters are concerned, Kino would be perceived as a weekly failure should he listen to his wife’s decision of throwing the pearl back to the sea or even destroying it as advised by her, perhaps he could have been laughed at as a womanish and even loose his reputation as a man.
Kino and villagers suffer as a result of the supernatural laws. Vulnerability of mankind to these beings makes them suffer unknowingly, Kino could hardly fathom his problems that have ensured could be from the divine sphere, Gods forbids a man to want something very much and Kino had wanted wealth very much, nothing seems to differ him from achieving his set target despite tough moment he undergoes. His resolution of changing a status quo of his family is obliterated by this gods by punishing him for being over ambitioned, Kino goes through another suffering the moment he steps out of la-paz. Since gods bars one from leaving his station of birth, Kino’s going out is meted with the death of his son coyotito which is the finest blow especially to one having one child and a believer of patriarchy.
The villagers who are fishermen ones also suffered loss when they unanimously agreed to be collecting their pearl and give one agent of their own who was to sell for them in the capital, their whereabouts was no traced when they fail to turn up since they left their station, perhaps they were punished immensely not even being able to return. In that note, fishermen are the victim of circumstance for they cannot risk vacating and refuse felling their pearl in la-paz. Though they are always manipulated by pearl buyers who buy them at a mega price, they have no alternative but to remain loyal and depend to them.
Indians are victims of colonialism. It is believed Indian race had been colonized over 400years by Spanish race. The current generation of Indian is suffering as a result of turmoil hipped on their preceded generation by colonizers. Since colonialism aims at controlling all hubs of the people under colonization, Indians are not exception. Spanish race is at center of every aspect of life. They control economical, religion and even political facts in entire la-paz. Their dominion segregates Indian even to acquire basic knowledge via formal education because of the highest illiteracy; Indians are vulnerable to fight for their own rights in their own land. Lack of knowledge plunges the whole race in an ocean of struggle to make ends meet. They cannot afford better clothing and housing. They live on a no diet. As their counterpart race lavish in good lifestyle. They are manipulated in economy and this is evident when Kino goes to sell his pearl, the price offered for his pearl is to meagre and they had strategize on how to cheat him. It is even ironical how this is extended to church a wholly place I also full of manipulation. Since Kino is not an erudite, the priest the moment he hears Kino has gotten the pearl he comes with fabricated stories in order to blackmail him. He praises Kino as a blessed man even is named after a very prominent person of the church and it is the books. Since he has no knowledge Kino presumes maybe it is true but convinces himself someday he and his people will know things that are in books and things that are not.
Coyotito also suffers as a victim of circumstance. As a child he is innocent knowing nothing of prevailing struggle under the tutelage of his parents and a toddler, he could not fathom out what is happening around him. He is like a sacrificial lamb to seal transition of his traditional father who is seen changed when he comes back in la-paz. He walks side by side with his wife Juana a thing that is alien to him and to his people. He also follows initial decision of Juana his wife of throwing the pearl back to the sea. His death could be a spot of self-realization what he’s chasing is beyond him.

Her dream was rudely and violently interrupted by a thunderous bang and a loud roar of laughter. She woke up with a start, jumped up to her feet and stared at the door with wide panic - stricken eyes. For a moment she could not figure out her surroundings and called out the name of her sister Taiyo. She was terrified. The door flung open and Olarinkoi staggered in.He was stone drunk. Resian stared at him unblinkingly as he walked towards her and she backed off terrified, squeezing herself flatly against the wall.He followed her there and got hold of her shoulders and shook her violently glaring at her with his glittering eyes.

"You silly thing," he thundered angrily."I tell you to prepare food and you refuse to do so, eh? Today you will know who the owner of this home is .If you are still in doubt, let me tell you frankly that from today on you are my wife, hear that , eh?You are my wife. For a long time you have been sneering at me, showing how highly educated you are .Today we shall see how educated your body is!Yes, we shall see!"

He got hold of her hand and began dragging her into the other room.At first she did not understand his intention until he began unfastening her buttons with his rough trembling hands. Then the truth came and with it , terror and panic. She tried to get away from him, but he held her effortlessly as he brutally continued fumbling with her dress, trying to loosen it.She screamed as loudly as she could while she pushed him away and thrashed frantically about. But that did not deter him and he totally ignored her screams holding her more firmly with his strong arms.Against her loud protest, he tore her garments and began to push her towards the bed.

Then desperately she took the last chance of self defense and self preservation.Mustering all her strength, she thrust his thumb into her mouth; sunk her teeth into the flesh like a ferocious animal and tenaciously held onto it, tugging at it fiercely like a lioness. She could feel the flesh tearing and she tasted the salt of his blood as it filled her mouth but she clung the thumb as Olarinkoi howled with pain.

"Nothing is wrong with me," Resian retorted furiously. And pointing at the living room, with her figure, she fiercely charged," I have no quarrel with my father for whom ,I have tremendous respect. It is the likes of Olarinkoi I am mad at, and all those other males who come here ordering us to do that or the other for them, simply because they are males. When women visit us, they do that or the other for them, simply because they are males. When women visit us they give us the leeway to respond to their requests,But as we burn our fingures here Mr. Olarinkoi is dozing off comfortably in our living room waiting for his lunch and possibly a little angry and impatient with us for delaying it'

"It is enough," cried Yeiyo - Botorr viciously. She instantly abandoned the peeling of potatoes and threw the knife into the pail that held the peeled potatoes.Supporting herself by holding onto a nearby wall, she painfully lifted a large, heavy body."My enkaini, I agree with you that something is wrong withour child, and I think I know what ails her.Come along with me and I will tell you what I think ails her." I am not sick....." Resian was saying that when she was cut short by Taiyo."Even if you are not sick, you cannot argue with Yeiyo Botorr,"Taiyo told her sternly as soon as they were out of earshot of their mother with Yeioyo Botorr,"there are things one has to learn on their own,One of them is that you cannot antagonize the older people by arguing with them, however, untenable their argument may be.That goes without saying, my dear little sister."
