Verbal communication- Language (verbal communication), is one of the most powerful reflections of how we think and feel about ourselves and others. Although it has now been established that words (verbal communication) only account for 7-11% of our communication, verbal communication is very important. In organizations, verbal communication enhances interpersonal relationships, positive customer response, and overall productivity. It is therefore important that leaders teach employees to develop their verbal skills appropriately.
In verbal communication, positivity is very important. Employees should be taught to infuse positivity in their verbal communication as positivity is encouraging and proposes alternatives to challenges. Employees should be taught to be assertive rather than aggressive. Moreover, they should be taught to adopt the right tone, pitch, accent, volume, and pace in their daily verbal interactions.

Non-verbal communication- is communication through sending and receiving wordless cues. It includes the use of visual cues such as body language (kinesics), distance (proxemics) and physical environments/appearance, voice (paralanguage), and touch (haptics). It can also include chronemics (the use of time) and oculesics (eye contact and the actions of looking while talking and listening, frequency of glances, patterns of fixation, pupil dilation, and blink rate. Nonverbal communication can portray a message both vocally and with the correct body signals or gestures. Body signals comprise physical features, conscious and unconscious gestures and signals, and the mediation of personal space. The wrong message can be established if the body language conveyed does not match a verbal message. Nonverbal communication strengthens the first impression in common situations like attracting a partner or in a business interview: impressions are on average formed within the first four seconds of contact (Kirch, 1979).
