It is limited in isolating the specific area responsible for the activity as a cognitive process under investigation. This is because the electroencephalograph records a combination of the activity of millions of neurons making it had to isolate the activity of interest. Also because the neurons impulses travel over the brain and through the skull there is some distortion in recorded signals further compounding localization of the brain are where the process is occurring
