- Traditions i.e. scarce resources male children are taken to school and girls remain at home.
- Discrimination against the girl-child at home in society, in school. Girl-child – house chores and the
boy relaxes.
- Safety and security within the school. Insecure, hostile school environment is not conducive to girls.
- Sanitation within the school. Number of toilets.
- Stereotyping i.e. the curriculum is harsh to the girls. In some books the girls are portrayed as weak,
less intelligent (Wanjiku Kabira).
- HIV and AIDS i.e. a big challenge towards achievement of EFA goals.
