- Encourage existing behaviours or teach new ones. This include attention and praise, the premack principle, shaping and positive practice.

- Positive results occur when teachers carefully and systematically praise their students. To be effective praise must be contingent on the behaviour reinforced, specify clearly the behaviours being reinforced and be believableMany psychologists advise teachers to accentuate the positive –praise students for good behaviour, while ignoring misbehaviour.

-Premack principle: A high frequency behaviour (a preferred activity) can be an effective reinforce for low frequency behaviour (less preferred activity).

- A related strategy is differential reinforcement or ignoring inappropriate behaviours while being sure to reinforce appropriate behaviours as soon as they occur.
