- In closely related subjects, such as Business Studies and Mathematics, the
knowledge of closely related subjects facilitates the teaching and learning of
Business. For instance, the knowledge of Mathematics makes learners comprehend
fully a wide range of the Business Studies concepts (the subject matter).
Calculating profit and loss, the optimum output, equilibrium etc require the
knowledge of mathematics. Without this knowledge, learners may not understand
or comprehend the subject matter of Business Studies.
- The laws, principles and concepts of other closely related subjects are also
perceived as a language of communication in Business Studies (e.g. the mean,
median mode, the great depression, etc).
- Textbooks used in the teaching of the closely related subjects (e.g. Geography,
Mathematics and History maybe borrowed to teach specific concepts of the subject
matter of Business Studies / e.g. commercial mathematics – calculating profit and
loss, simple interest, discount, etc. Equally, economic geography is useful in the
teaching of specific concepts of Business Studies.
- Teaching methods which are used in the teaching of closely related subjects may be borrowed to teach Business Studies (e.g. discussion method, problem solving method, lecture method etc).
- Assessment techniques used in closely related subjects may be borrowed to test learners understanding of Business Studies.
- Curriculum developers may also use closely related subjects to develop new
courses in Business Studies (e.g. Business Statistics, Econometrics, Economic
Statistics, Political Economics, Mathematics for Economists, etc.
