- Conflict establishes and maintains group identities due the emergence of ?in-group? and ?out-groups? feelings. Conflicts help individuals to have close identity with the groups they belong and even mobilise them to defend group?s interest.
- Conflicts create or modify rules, norms, laws and institutions especially after constructive conflict resolution process.
- Conflicts help establish our individual identity and independence. At earlier stages of life conflict helps one assert personal identity as opposed or separate from the aspirations, believes and behaviours of those around you.
- The intensity of conflicts demonstrates the closeness and importance of our relationships. An intimate relationship requires the expression of strong opposing feelings like love and anger. While the emotional intensity may threaten the relationship, they may also help measure the depth and importance of the relationship.
