-Wheat is an annual grass which may grow to a height of 1-1.5 m and tillers freely.
-The crop has morphological and anatomical features that characterize grass family: Leaves have no petioles but consist of a lower clasping sheath section and upper expanded blade which is long and narrow with parallel veins.
-Leaves are arranged alternately at the nodes.
-The inflorescence (or ear) is a terminal cylindrical spike.
-Wheat is self-pollinated by wind and about 1-2 % cross pollination can occur.
-The grain is a one seeded fruit with dry indehiscent pericarp called caryopsis.
