-Most of the wheat growing areas are above 1800 m and therefore experience cool climates.
-If high yields are to be realized, these areas should receive well-distributed average annual rainfalls of at least 700 mm.
-Towards ripening, the weather should be dry.
-Best soils for wheat growing are well-drained silty-loams of reasonable fertility and good lime content.
-Wheat is mainly grown on the slopes of mountains and highlands.
-In temperate regions, most wheat in winter seasons (winter wheat) at altitudes of between 1600m- 3000m asl.
-Ideal temperature should be between 20 -230C. Temperatures higher than 250C during grain development results in premature drying of the plant.
