-It is an annual plant that goes through vegetative and reproductive phases within a season (one season).The one season varies from variety to variety.
-Beans exhibit a lot of variation.That is it has a lot of genetic diversity. These variations is found in Morphological characteristics such as root nodulations, rooting depth, growth habits, flower colour, seed characteristics (size, colour, patching).
-Rooting system consist of a tap root which can extend up to 1m depth. It has lateral roots which are found mainly on the top 15cm of the soil. The crop has diversity in root nodulation (nodulating ability) and size of nodules.
-Leaves are normally hairy and alternate.
-Flowers are clastogamous where pollination and fertilization occur within unopened.
