The theory is also known as the theory of divine right of kings. It has three propositions; the state has been established by an ordinance of God. Its ruler are divinely appointed, they are accountable to no authority but God. The theory helped to support claims of certain rulers like James I of England to govern absolutely without being accountable to the people.
