-The Chinese education of ancient time sought to preserve the past. Unity of the family provided the foundation of the Chinese education throughout the ages. Therefore there education concerns itself with human relationships, order, duty and morality.

-According to the Chinese the educated is that man who has respect for knowledge while the ignorant man follows irrational passions. However knowledge should not be worshiped for its sake. It is important as prelude to correct ethical behavior.
-Ancient China did not develop a national education system. Private school prepared students to pass state examinations.
-There two educational cycles;
i. The elementary schools
ii. The academics
-The elementary schools took place in teacher’s houses and the academics provided advanced instructions.
-There were three stages in Chinese education
i. The art of writing literature
ii. the study of the nine sacred books
iii. The study in philosophy and the moral ideas.
-There was a strong emphasis on discipline in Chinese education which included use of corporal punishment. Methods used in teaching were mainly memorization and imitation. and since the past was the method originality and inventiveness were discouraged.
