A good mission statement must have information in seven major areas:
i) Company products/ services
This information identifies the goods and services used by the organization or what offers in
customers. A product is anything offered in the market for attention, acquisition and use but that capable of satisfying human needs and wants Products are not limited to physical product only but include services, ideas, places, people etc.
ii) Markets
This information describes the customers of organization in terms of two conditions
• Who these customers are (market segmentation)
• And where they are located (market location)
iii) Technology
This information generally includes such topics as the loose the materials, machines and
processed used to produce the organization goods and services.
The discussion consist must of a broad description of the organization production techniques.

iv.) Company’s Objectives
Most mission statement make a general reference to an organization objectives. For most firm
this includes the intention to survive in the market, continuous growth, quality and profitability.
Management must ensure that any specific and comprehensive organization objectives are
consistence with mission statement.
v) Company Philosophy
A statement of company philosophy also called company creed commonly appears as part of the
mission statement or the supplement material. Company philosophy is a statement reflected
beliefs and values that should guide members in conducting organization business.
vi) Company self concept
Mission statement inevitability contain its own view or impression. In essence the company
arrives at this self concept by assessing its strength, weakness, competition and ability to survive the market place.
vii) Public image
Mission statements generally contain some reference either directly or indirectly the type of
impression the company is attempting to leave with organization public's. In the end it is not the image that management want to project that is important (wish image) but the one that members of the public actually forms (Real corporate image)
