• It may sound appropriate and ethical, but it is hard to implement as not all companies have a social conscience.
• Moral debate abound whether it is legal and essential for industries like the tobacco and liquor industries that produce products that have tremendous negative influence on consumer welfare but are great contributors to social responsibility marketing activities.
• Marketers might not have the competence, nor the right, to decide what public interest is, since it should be the customers who decide what is good for them
• Marketing organizations may not have the capacity to deal with societal issues such as poverty, hunger, joblessness, crime etc as these are deemed to be the mandate of government and not business.
