1) Potential breach of confidentiality of information provided by organizations to researchers
2) Budgetary constraints – gathering and processing data can be very expensive. Many organizations lack the funds to pay specialist market research agencies to gather such data for them.
3) In experienced research staff/ lack of scientific training in the methodology of research is a great impediment for researchers. It needs great expertise and well-trained and experienced researcher, interviewer and investigator. Many organizations may lack the expertise to conduct extensive surveys to gather primary data.
4) Time constraints/consuming/ limitations. Its process is lengthy and needs long time to complete it. During the period between starting the research and implementation of decisions, the situation and assumptions may have changed drastically which reduces the utility of research report. Decisions based on such report prove to be obsolete and result in false conclusions. Marketing research is time consuming. It requires too much of time to reach the final conclusions. There may be a considerable time gap between the inception and completion of the research.
5) Reliability of the data – the value of any research findings depend critically on the accuracy of the data collected. Data quality can be compromised via a number of potential routes, e.g., leading questions, unrepresentative samples, biased interviewers etc.
6) Not an exact tool of forecasting. It cannot be used as a foolproof tool of forecasting because there are number of intervening factors between the findings of the research and marketing complex.
