1. Sender : the source of the message / the party sending the message e.g. person, group or organization
2. Receiver : individual , group (target market/audience ) or organization that decodes the message i.e. party that receives the message/ destination of the message .
3. Message : the set of symbol that the sender sends transmits or what the sender wants the audience to know / knowledge. The marketer has to ensure that the message is effective and wins the attention of the audience.
4. Encoding: putting thought into symbolic form so that it can be understood by the receiver and enhance the chances of achieving the objectives of the communication . The sender needs to know the audience and what response they want from the target market. The sender must use signs or symbols familiar to the receiver and avoid those that may have multiple meanings for the audience.
5. Media / channel: the means by which the encoded message moves / is transmitted from the sender to the receiver e.g. TV, Radio , print or personal contact or any other appropriate media.
6. Decoding—The process by which the receiver assigns meaning to the symbols transmitted by the sender. How the consumer interprets message. Understanding the target market's perception process is critical in ensuring that the message is well interpreted
7. Response--reaction of the receiver after exposure to the message such as buying or not to buying .
8. Feedback—part of the response communicated back to the sender by the receiver which indicates that the message has been understood. In feedback the receiver is the source of the message that is directed toward the original source.
9. Noise : is unplanned distortions during the communication process, resulting in the receiver ‘s receiving a different message that the sender sent. I.e. factors or extraneous activity and influences which may interfere and distort information at any point in the communication process. There is usually more noise with non-personal communication
