1. Collagen formation: The most abundant protein in fibrous tissues such as connective tissues, cartilage, bone matrix, tooth dentin, skin and tendons ARE all made from collagen. Without adequate vitamin C the integrity of collagen is compromised.
2. Dentin formation: The quality of tooth structure is related to vitamin C status at the critical stages of tooth formation. The dentin layer does not form normally if vitamin C is absent. This results in a tooth with structural weakness with less resistance to decay and injury.

3. Vitamin C is necessary for the hydroxylation of tyrosine which is a precursor of thyroxin.
4. Synthesis of neurotransmitters: In the brain two of the neurotransmitters needed to transfer nerve impulse can be produced only if adequate vitamin C available. Vitamin C is needed to convert tyrosine to epinephrine and tryptophan to serotonin both of which are eurotransmitters. Inadequate vitamin C intake leads to fatigue and weakness.
5. Utilization of iron, calcium and folacin. Vitamin C reduces ferric iron to ferrous iron, thus facilitating absorption. It also aids in transferring iron from the blood to be stored in the liver, aids in calcium absorption, conversion of inactive form of folacin to the active form.
6. Vitamin C is a water soluble anti-oxidant that protects vitamin A, vitamin E, polyunsaturated fatty acids and iron from destruction.
7. It is also involved in some immune system functioning.
