a) The Epic is the most sophisticated genre in oral literature. It is the most complex in
terms of language, performance stylistic devices etc.
b) The epic is more embracing in that it incorporates all forms of oral literature in an
epic the various genres of oral literature generally overlap.
In the process of recounting the deeds of a hero and in the development of the heroic
character the artist uses songs, proverbs, riddles narratives and other forms of oral
literature.

customs, textbooks and other aspects of a people's culture.

customs of the people.
3. It concerns itself with heroism which is the pillar (main thing of the epic).
4. it narrates the exploits and the deeds of the hero
5. it develops the philosophy of heroism and therefore a model for the community
6. The Epic tends to concern itself with the ruling class its ideology and world view.
