1. The objective of the lesson; e.g. if the aim of the lesson is for students is to be able to perform a certain experiment then experimental or demonstration is the most appropriate.
2. The size of class- when the size of class is too big then some methods like demonstration may not be appropriate.
3. Learners entry behavior- learners who have not been introduced to laboratory equipment may not be able to perform an experiment.
4. Ability and willingness of the teacher to improvise as some teaching methods like demonstration and experimental may need to improvise as some resources may not be available.
5. Availability of teaching and learning resources- when apparatus or reagents are not available, an experiment may not be possible.
