When setting exams it's important to test all six levels of abilities.
A test should be well balanced. For this to happen a table is used. An example is shown below

The Bloom's taxonomy represents the six cognitive levels which are;
1.Knowledge-
Question that require remembering are asked. They include questions of definition, stating, listing e.g.
"name two of the conditions of the mean value"
2.Comprehension
Involves questions that require a deeper reading and understanding and not just temperance
The verbs used include; summarize, differentiate, compare.
3.Application
Questions require the student to apply information already learnt to solve a problem e.g. Use the
Pythagorean Theorem to find the area of a triangle given only two sides of the triangle.
4.Analysis
Questions require a learner to use a concept to arrive at a conclusion.
5.Synthesis
Question requires a learner to reach a conclusion in order to solve a certain problem.
6.Evaluation
Learners are supposed to make judgment on which information to be used.
For a well-balanced test the table of specification is used.
