Lateral transfer:
Also called horizontal transfer and happens when knowledge learnt is applied at a similar level. e.g. content learnt in form 1 mathematics class is used to understand physics in the same class.

Vertical transfer:
Indicates upward movement in transfer of learning i.e. what is learnt is applied to other more complex situation. E.g. mathematics learnt in form 1 is used to understand more complex math problems in form 4.
