Gagne proposed a theory of instruction which is more concerned with the quality, permanence and
usefulness of learning.
He developed phases of learning together with instructional events associated with it. The phases include.
Step.1. Gaining attention
Gain student's attention
Step 2: informing learners of objective, activating motivation
In this step the teacher sets expectancy for learning by letting the students know the goals and arousing their curiosity.
Step 3 Stimulating recall of prior knowledge
Students are reminded of what they already know what is related to what they will learn
Step 4 presenting the stimulus material
Present new material, highlighting the important factors. STM
Step 5 providing learning guidance
Provide learning guidance such as examples and guided discovery to help move new material to LTM.
Step 6 Eliciting performance
The students should respond in some way to demonstrate learning
Step 7 provide feedback
These responses allow the teacher to access and check students understanding
Step 8 Assessing performance
Practice so that learners can retrieve the information as easily
