Faith
I. Neural decay theory:
This theory assumes that information disappears or deteriorates with the passing of time and continues metabolic process of the brain.
The traces of information learned slowly disintegrate and become extinct as a time passes.

II. Interference theory
Occurs when new memories interfere with old ones or old ones interfere with new ones.
This happens as either:
-Retroactive inhibition
When something is forgetting because of information learned later interferes with it
-Proactive inhibition
Forgetting something because something learnt earlier interferes e.g. learning a second language is greatly affected by the first language.

III. Rejection and repression
This occurs when the brain rejects input that is unimportant.
Stimulus that is threatening or disturbing to the emotional centers in the brain may be repressed.

IV. Cataloguing, filling and retrieval of errors.
This occurs when memory catalogues information wrongly or misfiles things.
It becomes difficult to retrieve information from the memory bank.

v. Brain damage
May result from accidents and illnesses which may lead to amnesia and the inability to file new items into the LTM
