Discuss Thorndike's connectionism theory

Answers

Faith
This theory was proposed by Thorndike and argues that learning means establishing links or bonds between two or more events e.g. pressing a lever to get food.
The theory has several laws of learning.

I. Law of effect
A satisfying state of affairs leads to repetition of a given behavior, while an annoying state of affairs weakens the response but does not lead to extinction.

Ii. Law of readiness When a person is ready or prepared to engage in a task and is provided with the opportunity to do so, the experience is pleasing and satisfying.
Conversely, when one is not prepared or ready to engage in a task, but is forced to do so, the end result will be annoying and frustrating.

III. The law of exercise
A strong connection or bond is established between stimulus and response as a result of practice.
Practice makes the connection perfect.

IV. Law of use
This law states that a connection between a stimulus and response is strengthened by frequent use.

The law of disuse
Infrequent use weakens the connection between a stimulus and response and is likely to make the
connection extinct.
