Ominde commission focused on unity, and made changes on subject content of history and
geography aimed at improving national cohesion.
II. Change of 7-4-2-3 system
The 7-4-2-3 system fell short in two areas i.e. the policy was not suitable in producing direct
employees. It also encouraged individualism
III. Introduction of 8-4-4 system
After the Mackay report in 1982 the 8-4-4 system was introduced in 1985.
The system was assumed to prepare students for employment world.
IV. Improvement of the 8-4-4 system
The Kamunge reports recommend reduction of examinable subjects which was implemented at
the secondary school level.
V. We have also seen the introduction of free primary education during the
Kibaki regime
VI. Currently the country is the transition from 8-4-4 to Competence Based curriculum (CBC).
