i. When coverage is extensive compared to the time available- for example in circumstances where content of sixteen weeks is expected to be covered within four weeks.

ii. When the class size is large- for instance owing to the increasing demand for education and consequent high enrolments in schools. There are larger classes (instead of the conventional class size of 30-40 per stream, there are huge classes (60-100). When learners do not have access to learning materials, such
as textbooks and apparatus due to increased enrolment as mentioned, there could be constraint on available resources and equipment such as textbooks and laboratory equipment and facilities like classrooms, laboratories, technical
rooms (workshops) etc.

iii. When content to be covered is theoretical in nature- the content for each subject varies depending on the nature of the subject. Some subjects are more practical oriented than others; nevertheless, theoretical content leads itself to
the use of expository strategy.

iv. When guiding learners in preparation for experiments, projects, field work and discussion- during the preparation for practical or field work, the teacher is expected to give the precise procedure to be adhered to while conducting whatever practical the learner is expected to undertake.
