– The title or name of the dish.
– A list of ingredients and the amounts needed for each.
– The beginning steps e.g. pre-heat the oven or grease a large baking sheet.
– Preparation steps e.g. sift the flour with the baking powder etc.
– What to do with the recipe before cooking
– The temperature at which the recipe should be cooked and time required to cook it.
– Any instructions for after the food is cooked e.g. remove pancake and place in a warm plate.
– The yield i.e. the number of servings or pieces the recipe makes.
Step 3: Prepare a Budget and shopping list
• A grocer is someone who sells food and other household items in bulk
• A grocery is the food and supplies sold by a grocer
• A budget is used to plan for expenditures to be incurred
• A budget ensures that important food items are not forgotten
-A budget is usually broken down into:
• The groceries
• The green groceries
• The butcher
• The dairy
Step 4: Prepare a shopping list
• A shopping list is a record of items to be purchased.
Step 5: List the equipment you need
Step 6: Establish a time-work plan
• A time – work plan is step by step guide to preparing a particular recipe. It includes all the activities you must perform and how long they will take. The activities are written in order in which the tasks will be done.
• Make your time plan work before you begin actual food preparation. Always read each recipe for your menu all the way through and be sure you understand every term.
