• Buy the quality that can be afforded
• Choose the type suitable for the stove it is to be used for; Electric stoves require pans with thick bases which will not warp when they come into contact with heat. If this happens, they are difficult to clean
• Lighter pans should be used on gas cookers
• Bottoms should be flat for best contact with the heat source. Edges should be smooth
• Consider the amount of use and the size of the family for which the pan is required and choose the size accordingly. Large families will need big pans
• The handle should be comfortable to hold and firmly attached to the pot. It must be sufficiently strong to support the weight of the pan when full.
• The handle and lid knobs should be made of heat resisting material.
• The lid should be well fitting so that it can be removed without burning hands.
• If storage is limited look for cookware with handles that can be hung or pieces that can be stack on top of each other.
