A prospective teacher should understand the characteristics of learners emerging at different stages of development; from infancy, childhood and adolescence and be able to impart instructions and mould their behaviour according to the specified goals of education.

They should be able to communicate effectively in the classroom and understand the subject matter well.

A teacher may understand the causes of problems of children which occur at different age levels and can successfully solve them, e.g. a teacher who is familiar with the fundamental principles of human behaviour applies her knowledge of psychology to solve the problems.

Psychological principles are also used in formulating curriculum for different stages. Needs of students, developmental characteristics, learning patterns and the needs of the society are to be incorporated in the curriculum.
7. Measurement of learning outcome.
To help the teacher assess the learning outcome of the students. She can also evaluate her teaching methods in the light of the performance of the students and modify her strategy of teaching.
8. Understanding of group dynamics.
It is important to the importance of social behaviour and group dynamics in the classroom teaching and learning.
The teacher must know about the operations which work in total social environment and their effects on learning.
9. Guidance of the children.
One of the most important contributions of educational psychology is to equip teachers with skills that can help provide guidance and counselling services to their students. Guidance is one of the most important service because students have problems relating to career choice.
