Bilingualism in the education of the Hearing Impaired is an approach in which
two languages are used alternatively for communication across the curriculum. It
is also referred to as Sign Bilingualism. Under this approach, emphasis is laid on
understanding content through the use of sign language which is then noted down
in a written language such as English, Kiswahili etc. For example concepts in a
science lesson can be explained in KSL and written down in English.
