i) Data editing
This deals with checking for errors and omissions. During the stress and strain of the data collection, a respondent can make errors. Data editing or cleaning therefore refers to the process of detecting and eliminating error from a given data set. There are many kinds of errors which a data c editor should check. below are some of data editing practices.
a) Incompleteness
The editor should check whether all questions are answered and find out unanswered questions (if any) are just inapplicable to a given respondents or simply (a non respondent). If possible, the editor may estimate the answer to unanswered questions. Normally, if an instrument is not answered up to 75%, then it should be eliminated from further analysis.
a)Inconsistencies
The editor should check whether answers to all questions are In agreement with eg. If one gives her age as 20 years old but has 10 children then there is no consistency in such a statement
b) Non uniformity in recording answer
Here the editor should check whether answers to a given question are recorded as required.
c) Eligibility
The editor should also check whether all answers are readable, so that the editor may contact friends to help him to understand poor handwritings or contact the respondent for clarification.

ii. Data categorization /cording
This a process by which a all answers in a questionnaire are categorized and each category is given an identification code. This code is used when entering data into a computer. A code is a number response or answer to a given question. These numerical codes are easier to enter into the computer than words and take less storage apace in the computer memory.

iii. Data presentation
After entry (into computer) the data have to be summarized so that they can be analyzed further. Statistics offer a number of tools for data presentation s such as-
i) Tables, ii) graphics, iii) frequency tables, etc.
Using a table data is summarized in rows and columns similar to matrix and spread sheets.
