What are the factors influencing supply of education?

1. Expected benefits from investment in education – social and individual benefits
2. Level of government’s income - high – more money –more supply of
3. Government policy – if it encourages education – more supply of education
4. Cost of factors of production e.g. teachers
The supply of education therefore depends on how much is allocated to education from
the national budget. For example free education needs transport hence if the disposable
income of the government is high, it is expected that more funds would be allocated to
each sector; the supply of education will increase across all levels of education. However,
if disposable income is low, supply of education will be low and may be limited to basic
education. In relation to introduction of compulsory free primary education the parents
still carry the burden of transport, fare, food and clothing, etc. some of which the
government is unable to supply.
