This refers to any relatively standardized social position involving specific rights and obligations which an individual is expected or encouraged to perform. It is the behaviour, rights and obligations expected of someone occupying a particular status. When people interact with each other, their behaviour corresponds to the particular roles they are playing. The socially determined behaviour expected of a person per-forming a role is called role expectation. One plays many different roles in a day. At home one may play the role of a daughter, at school the role of a student and a class prefect, and so on.
