What are the various factors that constitute society?

a) Society embraces human beings, their activities and relationships with one another, and their activities in relation to the natural and social environment. We can discuss the Kenyan, Ugandan and Tanzanian societies. Each has specific references to the physical environments of its people. They occupy a specific area in the world and share a common language (for example Kiswahili in Kenya).

b) Certain institutions created by man and formally constituted according to the laws of the land are also called societies. These include the church missionary societies, societies for the blind. In schools societies form themselves into groups with specific aims and objectives. Examples include Drama and History society.

c) Society is not determined by the number of its participants or the physical territory occupied. Society is a closely knit and self perpetuating organism. It is more than the individual members who compose it.

d) For people to live and interact freely in society, there should be conditions that regulate their behaviour towards each other.
