• Impersonal behaviour: members do not necessarily have personal contact, though the spirit of collective behaviour exists among them.
• Indirect contacts: face to face contacts are limited. Members inter-act mostly through other members in pursuing a common goal. Individuals are assigned roles which may not necessarily bring them into contact with one another before they attain the collective goal.
• Formal relationships: patterns of behaviour are laid down and are to be followed by every member. In some cases, these patterns are codified so that the occupant of a particular status knows what he/she is expected to do and what not to.
