Exogenous form:
This type of social change is influenced by forces which are not in society. These are mainly external forces. They include invasion of one country by another with the possibility of changing the invaded society, In Kenya, colonialism caused social, cultural, political and economic changes. People who had previously lived in a closed society faced new challenges caused by new expectations and beliefs. This engendered individualism and the disintegration of the family unit. People had to change so, as to accommodate the new ideas.

Endogenous Form:
This type of social change is brought about by factors within society, Examples, of such factors include high rates of inflation and unemployment. These could push highly educated people to sectors such as Juakali artisanship, matatu (public) transport business and hawking. This is necessitated by the need to survive.
