1. Respiratory System:
This includes the lungs, the muscles, which are used to either compress or dilate the lungs; the bronchiole tubes and the windpipe (trachea). The primary function of the respiratory system is breathing thereby assuring supply of oxygen.
2. The Phonatory System:
It is formed by the larynx (voice box). The front part of the voice box can be observed in males adults as Adams apple. The primary function of the larynx is to act as the valve (safety valve) that closes off the lungs partly for their protection and partly so that the rib cage can be made rigid while the arms exert muscular effort.
3. Articulatory System:
It consists of the mouth, the nose and especially tongue and teeth. The ear feedback is also
included among vocal organs even though it is not used in producing speech sounds. This is
because it is the main receptor of speech sounds and it is important to both speaker and listener
as it allows feedback.
Articulators are those vocal organs situated along the vocal tract above the glottis is the space
between the vocal cords. In the production of sound, one of the articulator is moved towards
another in such a way that the outline of the vocal tract through which the airstream has to pass is
changed.
