Lip position refers to the spreading or rounding of the lips. It indicates the tensing or laxing of the lips to give the vowel some rounding or spreading of lips.
It gives three ways of classifying vowels:
-Round
-Spread
-Neutral
We should describe a vowel by first describing the category of height, then tongue position and finally the lip shape. For example, [i] +high, -back, - round.
