1. Voiced State:
It is achieved with a narrowed glottis that causes the vocal cords to vibrate as air passes through. The sounds that are produced by the narrowed glottis are voiced sounds./b/, /d/, /g/.

2. Voiceless State:
It is achieved with an open glottis so that air passes with no vibration of the vocal cords.
The sounds produced are known as voiceless sounds. /t/, /p/, /k/.

3. Whisper State:
It is achieved in a glottis that is narrower than the one in a voiceless state. The air flows out with a strong hushing noise. The whispered air takes longer to flow out than the one utilized for the voiceless state. The sounds through the whispered state are voiceless sounds.

4. Creak State:
It is achieved with a glottis that is completely closed along most of its length except near the front end opening. Air escapes in a low frequency through a small segment near the end of the glottis. Each explosive burst of air is heard distinctively. The sounds produced are voiced /r, z/.
