Interaction of man with the environment has changed over time. Machines and advanced technologies have caused a higher impact than in the past. All of the needs people had in the past were satisfied by the natural resources they were largely available in the environment around them. Nowadays, resources are transported throughout the world, as the demand gets higher. Lifestyle changes over time have increased the pressure on different environments and the ecosystems we live in.
In addressing the question on 'whether or not man is part of nature?' different view pints have emerged. There is a school of thought that argues that human beings are no. part of nature. I do not understand how this could be. Since humans have the same chemical constituents of- all the other life on the planet, it can be reasonably inferred whatever produced the rest of the biosphere produced man too, making man just as natural as the plants and animals. If someone can defend the position that man is un-natural I would be interested in reading that position explained.
Disagreements typically centre on moral responsibility.. If man is the only animal with the capacity for abstract reasoning and moral judgement, do we have responsibility beyond other animals? It appears that ail other species have no regard for the survival of other living things, so why would man? If "survival of the fittest" is the rule, does not interference by man to preserve other species work against natural selection? Answers given to this question depend on the world-view, religious views or other paradigm of the person giving you the answers.
